"Life was made for good friends and great adventures!"
New York was one state that was on my must visit list. So when one of my best friends Jennifer asked if I and another friend Allison would join her on a trip to New York, I couldn't say no. Mind you, at this time, I'm doing my self care challenge and I needed this break away from kids and away from the hubby. Just me and the girls! I was a little nervous about leaving the kids with Thomas, especially Journee. But I tried not to stress about it and made it clear it was his turn to see how I feel everyday dealing with kids and a baby all day long, LOL. Flying has always been a fear of mine although I have flown many times. For some strange reason, I just can not get use to it. I rather drive. I feel so out of control in the air and I do not like it when I am not in control of something. LOL
I said a prayer and faced my fears once again. Yes, I got on the plane. I was not going to miss the opportunity to go to New York. What is amazing is you know how you never been somewhere and you have it all in your mind how it is suppose to look, well what I thought in my mind about New York, was not how it looked at all! New York city is surely is a different city. There are so many people, VERY over populated! LOL The people who do drive are so mean and rude and I have never heard so much honking in my life. I got A LOT of exercise because you do a lot of walking and everything looks really old but really big. It is not a place I would live but I it was exciting to visit. We did have a really good time. The food was amazing, lounges were fun, site seeing was really cool, and are air BNB was very nice. The people that we did met were extremely nice which was weird.
On our first day, we went to a restaurant called Miti Miti www.mitimitinyc.com it was a really cool Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere was cute. I am not a big fan of skulls but they were colorful like the ones in the kids movie CoCo. The drinks and food was amazing. I had coconut mango wings and a margarita and I shared my Mexican street corn with Allison. She also had a burrito, Jennifer had tacos. This place is definitely a place I would go back to if I am ever in Brooklyn again.
After Lunch we headed to Dumbo (or DUMBO, short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Brooklyn. The area known as DUMBO used to be known as Gairville. It encompasses two sections: one located between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges, which connect Brooklyn to Manhattan across the East River, and another that continues east from the Manhattan Bridge to the Vinegar Hill area. They had an Art show going on at the time so we got to take pictures of all the art. They have a deck where you can take pictures on the water. A carousel for kids to ride and a whole lot of other things to do that we didnt get a chance to do because we were press for time.
One thing we all were excited about doing was meeting up with our old manager. A lot of people do not know this, but if you went to high school with us, you would know that we were in a singing group together. Meeting up with Lisa brought back so many memories and it was so nice seeing her again. I haven't seen her since high school. We meet her in Manhattan at a restaurant called Beauty and Essex beautyandessex.com This place was pretty dope, romantic and very upscale. You don't even know that it is a restaurant just by looking inside the window. Once you walk in, it's a pawn shop! Then as you walk through, they open a door and it's like a whole different world beyond the door. It is like you have to be in a special VIP club to get inside! LOL I didn't eat much because we ate a late lunch and we had ice cream so I only ate Lobster Mac and Cheese and ate some of Allisons' Steak because that steak was like a whole Cow and it cost $65! It was really good. Jennifer had salmon and Lisa had chicken. We all had a glass of wine and had their delicious donuts for dessert. I would definitely go back to this restaurant and I advise everyone that goes to NY to stop by as well.
Once we left dinner we had an interesting experience getting lost on the subway back to the Air BnB and by the time we found our stop, walked 15 minutes back to the place we were staying, I was tired, the mom tired kicked in and I was ready to go to sleep, Allison as well. But, Jennifer looked at us like we were crazy! It was after 10:00 pm which means in my mind, it's bed time! Only mothers will understand that. I got to get my sleep if you want anything out of me tomorrow LOL. Jennifer was really good at understanding that we needed our rest so, she called up some of her friends and they went out and me and Allison called it a night!
The next day we had reservations for a brunch. We were so excited about but I am not going to speak on it because it was a disappointment. The food was okay and we had unlimited mimosas. But it just wasn't how we thought that it would be. After brunch, we decided to explore a little. We took lots of pictures in front of amazing graffiti, we ate more ice cream from Tipsy Scoop www.tipsyscoop.com , cookies from the Milk Bar www.milkbarstore.com made beautiful necklaces at Brooklyn Charm www.brooklyncharm.com This place was really cool. You got to pick out what you wanted for a necklace or a bracelet and then they make it for you. They had so many charms to pick from. Once you picked out all your charms, you give it to the people and they build your necklace for you. All of ours came out so beautiful. After we left, it was getting late and we had to go back to change for dinner. We promised Jen we would go out that night since it was our last night.
On our last night, we decided to eat at SoCo http://socobk.com/ this place had a really nice atmosphere but I wasn't happy with my food. I had way better salmon but, their drinks were really good. They had a lounge connected to the restaurant so after you eat you can go right over and dance it off. We didn't go to the lounge. We ended up at a different lounge called Ode to Babel www.odetobabel.com now this place was so much fun. Night life in NY is way different than ATL people actual dance and not just stand around. I don't have any pictures of this night just a whole lot of videos but, it was the prefect way to end our last night in NY! We didn't get home until 4AM! I couldn't believe I was up that late. I haven't stayed out that late since I was in my 20's!
Overall it was a MUCH needed self care girls trip for me. The three of us have been friends for years, since middle school. This was our first trip together as adults and we agreed there will be many more to come. We all learned things about ourselves and each other on this trip. We argued, we laughed and we had a really good time. I wouldn't have done it any other way then with Jennifer and Allison. So cheers to an amazing trip and a wonderful experience. I am proud of myself. I got on the plane and I didn't have a panic attack. I didn't cry about missing my babies. But, I actually enjoyed my time away and the peace I had. It was nice to be able to SLEEP without waking up every two hours! LOL I advise all my mothers out there to take a trip once a year to refresh and enjoy life without having to worry about your kids or hubby every 5 minutes!
Don't feel bad about it, we all deserve a break!
